Florence Pike (nee Swancutt) & Elmwood House

Loading...

Elmwood House, Hamstead Hill, Handsworth, was the home of the famous Rabone Family of Rabone and Chesterman measuring tool manufactures, based in Hockley Birmingham.
My nan Florence Pike worked for the Rabone's as domestic help from the early 1930s, I dont know when she left the Rabone's employment but I have a number of post cards that show she was still there in 1938.
the photo above was given to Florence about 1935 by Mrs Rabone.
Below are some of the correspondence sent to Florence whilst she was working for the Rabone's

Whilst searching through some of the documents I found two news paper cuttings that Florence had kept, the first shows
Mrs Rabone at Bingley Hall, Broad Street, Birmingham.
Mrs Rabone is on the right of the picture.

The second cutting is from the Evening Despatch 4 April 1946, and it covers the sale of Elmwood House, I dont know what happened to the Rabone's or why the house was sold, if you have any info on them I Would love to here from you.
